Want to help?

We are looking for code that can be shared and reused across register-based research projects

Published

June 6, 2026

This guide is continuously evolving β€” and we know that many researchers have solved the same classic problems over and over, each in their own project, without the code ever being shared.

Do you have code lying around that solves one of these problems? We would love to hear from you.

What we are looking for

Examples of code that could benefit several of your colleagues:

SEPLINE

Algorithm for identifying sepsis in LPR data β€” e.g. based on the SEPLINE criteria.

Weighted medication use

Methods for calculating exposure measures from LMDB β€” e.g. PDC (Proportion of Days Covered), MPR, or DIRD-based measures.

Family linkage

Linking parents and children via CPR number β€” e.g. to transfer exposures or covariates across generations.

Episode construction

Merging overlapping or adjacent LPR contacts into continuous hospitalisation episodes.

Time-varying covariates

Constructing covariates that change over follow-up time β€” e.g. medication use, diagnoses, or socioeconomic status from year to year.

Note

It does not need to be finished or validated β€” we are happy to work further with drafts. If you have something else entirely that solves a general problem in register data, you are very welcome to get in touch as well.
